UVA SUMMER BALL LEAGUE

Union Volleyball Academy is thrilled to launch our Summer Ball Program—designed specifically for young athletes with limited training and team experience! This program is perfect for those who haven’t played club volleyball before, including athletes with backgrounds in CYO, middle school JV, or similar programs.
To participate in Summer Ball, athletes must be registered for a UVA All Skills Summer Camp through either our Bundle (June + July) or Monthly-Pack options. These training sessions will serve as the foundation for skill development and team play throughout the summer.
Summer Ball is a low-commitment, high-rep, and fun program focused on scrimmaging and game play. There are no set positions—we believe in developing well-rounded players by allowing them to explore different roles on the court.
How is this different from UVA Fall Ball?
While both programs emphasize growth and game play, Summer Ball is a more relaxed environment with:
✅ Rotating coaches
✅ No fixed rotations
✅ No set positions
Athletes will still be evaluated and placed into teams, ensuring competitive and enjoyable matchups all summer long!
If you're looking for an opportunity to train, play, and have fun without the commitment of a full club season, Summer Ball is for you!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each team will have 8–10 athletes and will be a mix of 13- and 14-year-olds.
Smaller rosters mean more playing time! Athletes will get more game reps during each scrimmage.
Each team will have a UVA coach assigned for each tournament day, but coaches will be rotating each scrimmage.
Coaches will rotate to give athletes the chance to learn from different UVA coaches and experience a variety of coaching styles.
UVA will host two (2) one-hour evaluation sessions to assess skills and place athletes on teams. Team placements will be shared via email, and families will be asked to confirm their acceptance.
Can’t make an evaluation session? No problem! Athletes will be assessed during camp instead.
Athletes are expected to train and develop their skills during camp sessions and compete in scrimmages on scheduled tournament days. Players should come ready to perform all skills and play all positions!
Scrimmages will run 25–30 minutes per match. A schedule will be created and shared with families and coaches ahead of time.
Teams will play for time — we’re focusing on development, not the scoreboard!

UVA Summer Ball Program FAQ
What is the UVA Summer Ball Program?
The UVA Summer Ball Program is a low-commitment, high-repetition volleyball program designed for young athletes with limited training and team experience. It focuses on scrimmaging, game play, and overall skill development in a relaxed and fun environment.
Who can join Summer Ball?
Summer Ball is perfect for athletes who have not played club volleyball before, especially those coming from CYO, middle school JV, or other similar programs.
What are the requirements to participate?
Athletes must be registered for a UVA All Skills Summer Camp (either through the Bundle option for June + July or Monthly-Pack option) in order to participate in Summer Ball. These camps will provide the foundational training needed for Summer Ball.
How is Summer Ball different from Fall Ball?
While both programs emphasize growth and game play:
Summer Ball is more relaxed with rotating coaches, no fixed rotations, and no set positions.
Fall Ball typically introduces more structured rotations and positions to prepare athletes for club season.
Will athletes be placed on teams?
Yes! Athletes will be evaluated and placed onto teams to ensure competitive and enjoyable scrimmages throughout the summer.
What is the coaching structure like?
Summer Ball features rotating coaches. This allows players to learn from a variety of coaching styles and perspectives while keeping the environment dynamic and fun.
Are there set positions during Summer Ball?
No—there are no set positions. We want athletes to explore and experience different roles on the court to help them become well-rounded players.
Is Summer Ball considered part of the club season?
No. Summer Ball is a separate, low-commitment program and does not require a full club season commitment.
What is the main focus of Summer Ball?
The main goals are to maximize touches, enhance game instincts, and give players the chance to develop and have fun without the pressure of competition results.
What if I can only attend part of the summer?
Because participation is tied to the All Skills Summer Camp registration (which offers flexible options like Monthly-Packs), there’s some flexibility built in! Athletes can choose the camp schedule that works best for them.
Do athletes need prior volleyball experience?
Some basic volleyball experience is recommended (such as CYO, middle school teams, or similar), but no club experience is necessary!
How do I register?
First, register for the UVA All Skills Summer Camp through either the Bundle or Monthly-Pack options. Details and registration links can be found on our website or by contacting us directly.
